Two weeks in?

How bout we try to get a little bit of perspective on our season. Last year after we beat MST in the bowl, Stafford, Moreno, Mo Mass, and Asher left. We lost four very important pieces to a team that dissapointed with three losses. After we knew that Staff and company would leave I prepared myself for a very long and trying season this year. Yet over the summer I once again bought into the hype of being a top ten team again this year. I bought into a win at OKST. I bought into Joe Cox and the young tlent we have. I bought into RELOADING.
After two games I find myself settling into a relazation, we are not as bad as I thought we would be at the end of last year nor are we as good as I was lead to believe during this summer and camp. We as fans expect alot and should with our programs tradition, but When you loose four players to the NFL and three in the first round, things are going to be tough. We do have alot of talent but it is young. Our two freshman QBs have tons of upside but Joe Knows more than probebly any other Qb of the Richt era what it takes game in and game out.
So I have a few points that I have learned over our first two games and compare that to what you all have seen. Maybe my observations are totaly off base, maybe not.

As unimpressive as Joe cox was a week ago, he showed a very courageous performance last night. Joe seemed to have more pop on the ball and Il take 17 of 24 every game. One concearn I have with him is his awareness. The throw to Norwood was beautiful, he hit him right in the numbers but Norwood is a COCK. Joe gets very rattled under pressure which is something a 5th year player should not be, although he hasnt played alot in college. And the decision making so far has been on par with Stafford. Yet Stafford often had the skill to overcome mental errors.

Our running game is going to be fine. I liked what I saw out of Samuel last week in his first start. I loved what I saw last night. Samuel ran like he wanted to hurt someone and refused to go down on first contact. He also caught the ball out of the backfield and looked good doing it. No he is not Moreno, but who is? I really believe Samuel is our every down back and his punishing style will open up oppertunities for our scatt backs. Also getting Caleb back can only help.

Branden Smith is as advertised. Branden has made a couple of mistakes some of which(bringing out of the back of the endzone on returns) our coaches have taken the blame for. Or atleast passed it off to our up back. Yet Branden is lightening fast and shifty. The reverse last night was beautiful. He looked like one of the fastest players weve had in awhile. Smith has also played some db and played well, although he did look a little lost covering a pass into the endzone as his back was turned. Branden is just a Freshman in his second game, he is going to be really, really good.

The D has been mediocre. Last week we only gave up 24 points to what is supposed to be a prolific offense. 17 of those points were off of turnovers but in their first two games OKST has been less than impressive. Last night SC got the game of Garcias carrer against us. Once again our O and special teams gave the opposition points off turnovers. We surrendered atleast 19 points off miscues. So the D gave up only 18 points earned. But 18 points is huge against a Carolina team that mustered only seven against NCST. Alot of that can be attributed to the aggresive play calling of TOBC. Yet OKST and SC shot their self in the foot with penalties on multiple occasions. We cant keep depending on teams to beat their selves with penalties.

KICKOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blair showed last night he has plenty of legg and looked how that turned out. Fabris needs to just kick it deep and live with the occasional return. Whereas the dirrectional kick will always be returned thus being more dangerous. Also how about Blair Walsh, i love the fact that we are in stiking distance at the forty. This kid is GOOD.

Bobos play calling has left alot to be desired the last couple of years. He has his moments and then all thought and theroy dissapear. I dont have a clue why we ran Samuel so few times when he was so effective. I did like the reverse call to Smith with Carlton being the intial ball carrier as the speed of those two requires the Ds attention. We need to use Orson ALOT more as he has shown great route running and good speed. The call on AJs touchdown was beautiful, as was the catch and throw. The "balance" we hear about is not just equal running and passing plays but keeping the D guessing, cmon BOBO!

The freshman: Oher than Charles and Smith we have not seen them. Wooten and Brown have had three total snaps in two games. I dont see them everyday like our coaches but havent they made this mistake before (Knowshon). Wooten and Brown both come highly touted and could help AJ if they only decoys. I just see getting those two and Ealey some snaps here and there can only help going forward. I can see red shirting Mett but why not give Murray a few snaps when the O is stagnant. Next year we are going to need each and everyone of these guys as the expectations will be high when the Mighty Gayturds fall.

Logan Grey: I would understand us not seeing him if Joe Cox was clearly the man, but thats not the case. Logan offers up alot of problems for defences with his running ability. I have another question though, if Logan can throw the ball pretty well as we saw in the GDAY game then why dont we bring him in for a bootleg or two? When the D sees Logan come in they are going to naturaly think run so why not bootleg out and throw down the field. Its worth a shot isnt it?

You have to feel good after a win and I do, but there are alot of questions going into next week. We as fans need answers. I do see us winning the next two games and putting the wood to Mallet but we need to really grow in the next couple of weeks. We are a good football team, and we will be ok as long as we keep getting better and the coaches come around. GATA Dawgs

A look at the bright future of UGA football in 2010

I always border on being very optimistic, to being a full force HOMER, but this year I see a nine win season as a great success. I do believe the boys are capable of going undefeated behind strong defencive play but I see it more likely that we fall a few times. I do however see the light at the end of no national title tunnel Richt has been living in. I refer to this light as the year of the Dawg or 2010 A.D.
I know it alot early to be talking about next year, but just try to see the reason behind my madness. We will start with our schedule that has a particular fluffy, sweet, covered in icing ttype taste especialy after the last two years. In 10 we won't see Alabama, LSU, or Ole Miss. We also substitute the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns for the Pokes as our opener. We also get Ark, Vandy, Tenn, and Yech at home. I see that as an all to manageable schedule. My next big reason for being so high on hope is our roster. We will have Logan for another year and our freshman won't be freshman anymore. I see Aaron as our starter with some sets for Logan. We get every back we have back with another year of experience. A.J. will return with Wooten, King, Brown and Charles. Our O line will be the best In the country as we will return most of our starters and back ups. We will lose Vance and Sturdivent though. We do lose 5 starters on D including Atkins and Owens, but with our recruits this year and next plus Houston, Washington, Tripp, and Weston. Oh yeah should Rennie forgo the Nfl he will return with our other backers. My final optimistic thought for the year of the Dawg is our opponents rosters. I do believe Tenn will be better along with S.C. but Florida will lose Jesus in jeanshorts, Spikes and quite possibly half of the rest of there two deep to The NFL or graduation. Alabama will lose at least 13 starters between this year and next to graduation. LSU meanwhile loose 11 to graduation two of which are Scott and LaFell. Arkansas will be Arkansas and Vandy will be Vandy.
Don't get me wrong I'm enthusiatic about our 09 campaighn but 2010 and on look to be Richts next big shot at the Crystal ball and I for one can't wait! I

I had to compose this on my iPhone and I'm sure it's full of grammatical errors but it's the substance that counts so if you have any corrections or comments, they are welcomed. Go Dawgs

The Atkins Diet

WARNING: SEC Quarterbacks beware Mr. Atkins is looking to improve his draft status

Geno Atkins will return to tackle this year for the dawgs and this could be hazardous to those in his path. Geno has been outstanding in spring practice and is looking to return to 07 form, only this time he's got a healthy line around him and a up and comming rush end in Houston. The 6"1, 290 pound Atkins has a lightening quick first step and will be demanding double teams this season. Last year with 34 tackles and only seven and a half for loss. In 07 he had 41 tackles,
15 for loss and seven and a half sacks. Last year he did lead the team in hurries
with 30. Hurries are great but QBs with grass hanging from their mask is a thing
that lead chills up my back. I look for Atkins, Houston, jones, and of course the
Liberian assassian to be the dark horseman of the defense.

For those readers looking to lose a few pounds, then enroll at a certain school in Knoxville. Regardless of age you can commit and if you can throw a football 15 yards within 30 feet of a target, you'll move up their depth chart like a rocket and who wouldn't wanna play behind this years line there. Do your duty and volunteer. And with all the running you'll do from a pass rush you will drop the pounds.

Optimistic Rambelings

I sit here this morning thinking about alot of the negativity that surrounds our team. Whether it be people questioning our QB and RB situation or the nay sayers about slick Willie and our defense. I see our glass as half full. Yeah we lost three first round picks but this is Georgia! I'm not trying to hate on Teams like UK or Vandy but most of our third stringers would be starters in their programs. And in case you haven't noticed UK isn't as awful as they once were, they are however doomed by the conference in which they play.

I find these points for a lil optimisim in Athens:

1. Joe Cox is everything that Staff wasn't while retaining a few of his better traits (excluding the deep ball).
Joe is deadly accurate as was showcased years ago in the elite 11QB camp. In the camp he won every accuracy drill over names like Mark Sanchez. Joe has seen slot of the schemes on both sides of the ball in the SEC, and this team listens to and believes in Joe Cox. In the offence we run I believe Joe to be the better fit as our leader. Plus he died his hair red and that's dedication!

2. We are going to miss Knowshon, but we do have atleast three SEC caliber backs. Carlton Thomas(The Red Shirt Rocket) is a name we will all know well by seasons end. He has an elusive quality much as Moreano and is very quick. The only drawback on him is size, but some of the best backs in college are small. I also look for Samuel to emerge as our short yardage back and the keeper of the clock. We've also got a very capable Caleb King in the stable. I look for us to have alot of success in our running game through various looks.

3. I've heard roomers on other blogs and sports sites that we are gunna have some sets for Logan. This really interests me. I love our pro style offence but would love to see a lil option or spread. Gray is very athletic as we saw last year and is a decent passer. I believe linking
Logan up occasionaly will give ds fits. As far as our an situation goes remember we have two young studs on the sidelines.

4. Our I line is almost completely healthy and they have some more experience and should be a real strength. I look for Cordy to be a stand out this year.

5. Finally, our d. As dissapointing as last year was we still finished at 22nd in total defence. We really had a down year defensively but we had a few key injuries and for some god for Saken reason we forgot how to tackel. I also believe that Willie will help our ends find their way to the quarterback with more frequency. A better pass rush and mediocre tackling will make our d much improved over last year.

I hope my beliefs hold true and we see some improvements across the board. I think Cox will be a suprise, Charles and Brown will be contenders for FOY. I am an extreme optimist but I see this team being a big suprise and battling for a bcs bid or a upper tier bowl. I have our Dawgs at 10-2 with losses in Jacksonvile to God in jean shorts, and to Lsu or Okst.

What do you think and if I'm wrong tell me.
